Job Overview
The role of a Junior Firefighter at Fidelity Services Group involves responding to and managing fire incidents, emergency rescues, and related humanitarian operations. Successful candidates will be required to protect lives and property through effective firefighting, rescue operations, fire prevention activities, and the correct use and maintenance of firefighting equipment.
Key Responsibilities
The appointed candidates will carry out firefighting and emergency operations under the supervision and guidance of senior officers. Responsibilities include responding to fire incidents, rescue operations, and hazardous material situations, as well as providing basic medical care and emergency treatment to injured persons.
Additional duties include operating and maintaining firefighting equipment and vehicles, conducting safety inspections, participating in training drills, completing administrative records, and ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety regulations. Firefighters will also assist with fire safety training, inspections, and life safety education initiatives.
Candidates may be required to drive and operate heavy and specialised emergency vehicles, participate in departmental health and safety activities, and support supervisory functions as required by the Fire Chief and senior management.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered:
Grade 12 (Matric) certificate
IFSAC accreditation
NFPA 1001 Firefighter II certification
Firefighter II qualification
A minimum of 2 to 3 years relevant firefighting experience
Valid Code C1 driver’s licence with PrDP
Medically and physically fit for operational duties
Clear criminal record
Strong understanding of fire prevention procedures and firefighting systems
Ability to respond efficiently under emergency conditions
Additional certifications and experience such as Hazmat training, EMT certification, First Aid Levels 1 to 3, and advanced driving experience will be advantageous.
Core Competencies
Successful candidates should demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills, sound knowledge of hazardous materials guidelines, and an understanding of security industry regulations. The ability to work within operational protocols, maintain discipline, and apply firefighter instructional principles in an operational environment is essential.
