The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) has officially opened applications for the 2027 Military Skills Development System (MSDS) intake. This programme gives young and deserving South Africans the opportunity to serve in the military on a two-year contract while gaining valuable skills, training and experience.
Applications opened on Monday, 16 February 2026 and will close on 27 March 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to submit their application forms before the closing date.
About the MSDS Programme
The Military Skills Development System (MSDS) is a two-year voluntary service programme designed to provide young South Africans with military training and skills development. During the first year, recruits undergo basic military training and functional training in their chosen service arm. In the second year, members are deployed where needed and continue gaining hands-on experience.
The programme is an excellent opportunity for youth who are passionate about serving their country and building a disciplined and structured career foundation.
