This internship is structured to provide hands-on training and exposure to property valuation processes in line with municipal legislation and professional standards.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have completed a National Diploma or NQF Level 6 qualification in Real Estate: Property Valuation, or a qualification recognised by the South African Council for the Property Valuers Profession (SACPVP). A minimum of 360 credits is required.
No prior work experience is required, making this opportunity suitable for recent graduates. Candidates must be computer literate, with preference given to those who have experience using spreadsheets and word-processing software.
Applicants must be validly registered with the SACPVP as a Candidate Valuer or Professional Associated Valuer. A valid driver’s license and access to own transport are compulsory.

Primary Function of the Internship
The primary function of the Intern: Valuer is to undertake tasks related to property valuation within the City of Johannesburg. This includes participating in property market research, assessing physical attributes of properties, and conducting fieldwork.
The intern will be trained to operate as a technical support resource in property valuation matters, assisting with the compilation and maintenance of the City’s General and Supplementary Valuation Rolls. All duties are carried out under the guidance and delegation of the Municipal Valuer in terms of the Municipal Property Rates Act (MPRA) 6 of 2004, as amended.
Key Learning Areas
Interns will be exposed to a wide range of learning activities, including research and fieldwork for the valuation of various types of properties. This involves identifying, inspecting, and collecting information on both subject properties and comparable properties.
The programme includes training on the correct application of market value principles and participation in the preparation and maintenance of general and supplementary valuation rolls in line with legal requirements and Council policy.
Interns will also perform administrative duties in compliance with the MPRA, assist with ad hoc tasks such as Parks Contributions when required, and support the development and execution of daily operational plans.
Additional learning areas include process optimisation, improving efficiency in property valuation, monitoring allocated assets and resources, engaging stakeholders, and representing the Valuations Division on property valuation matters. Interns will also gain experience in risk management, good governance, and the compilation and submission of accurate and reliable reports.
Leading Competencies
Successful candidates must demonstrate computer literacy, particularly in MS Office applications such as spreadsheets and word processing. Strong report writing skills and effective verbal and written communication are essential.
The role requires good planning, organising, and time management skills, as well as the ability to work under pressure. Interns must display confidentiality, integrity, and perseverance, along with sound judgment, assertiveness, and analytical thinking.

The internship requires the ability to process and understand complex and technical information, systematically analyse problems, identify key issues, and draw logical conclusions.
