Check Matric Exam Results
When the 2025 Matric (NSC) examination results are released, candidates will have several official ways to access them. Unlike in previous years when learners depended mainly on newspapers, results can now be checked online, via SMS, or collected directly from examination centres.
This article explains how to check Matric results online, important release dates, and alternative methods available to learners in South Africa.
2025 Matric Results Release Date
Umalusi is the body responsible for quality assuring and approving Matric examination results. Once this process is completed, the Department of Basic Education is permitted to release the results.
Important points to note include the following:
The statement of results will be issued by the examination centre where the learner wrote the exams, usually the school.
This statement serves as an official temporary document while waiting for the Matric certificate.
The national Matric pass rate will be announced by the Minister of Basic Education on the evening of 12 January 2026.
Individual Matric results will be available to candidates from the morning of 13 January 2026.
Learners may collect a full set of results from the school where they wrote the examinations.
Following a court ruling, Matric results will also be published in newspapers. These listings only display examination numbers and pass status or pass level. No names are shown.
