Programme Overview for SAA Learnership 2026

The SAA Technical Apprenticeship and Learnership Programme is based in Kempton Park, Gauteng. Successful candidates will receive both theoretical and practical training aligned with aviation industry requirements and regulatory standards.

The programme aims to develop highly skilled artisans who can contribute meaningfully to aircraft maintenance, repair, and related technical fields within the aviation industry. Training is delivered in a controlled and professional environment that prioritises safety, quality, and compliance.

Trades Offered in the SAA Learnership Programme

Applicants may select two trades in order of preference when applying. The following aviation trades are available under the programme.

Aircraft Welding

This trade focuses on welding and repairing aircraft and engine components. Learners will be trained in plasma spraying, heat treatment processes, and the manufacturing of aircraft parts and tooling in accordance with aviation safety standards.

Aircraft Spray Painting

This trade involves corrosion prevention, repairing damaged paint coatings, applying protective finishes, and painting aircraft interiors and exteriors. Learners will be trained to meet strict quality and safety requirements used in aviation environments.

Aircraft Trimming

Aircraft Trimming focuses on the manufacturing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of aircraft interiors. This includes seating, panels, and survival equipment used onboard aircraft.

Aircraft Composite Structures

This trade focuses on the manufacturing, repair, inspection, and maintenance of aircraft composite components. Learners will gain skills in working with modern materials used in advanced aircraft structures.

Minimum Education Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following educational requirements to be considered for the SAA Learnership Programme.

Option One: Grade 12 or Matric

Applicants must have passed the following subjects:
Pure Mathematics with a minimum of 50 percent or Level 4
Physical Science with a minimum of 50 percent or Level 4
English, with a recognised symbol

Option Two: N3 Certificate

Applicants must have:
Mathematics with a minimum of 50 percent pass
Engineering Science with a minimum of 50 percent pass

Applicants who do not meet these minimum requirements may not be considered.

Selection Process and Important Information
