Both positions are classified at Paterson Grade B1 and offer an annual salary package ranging from R116 259.00 to R156 204.00, depending on experience and applicable remuneration policies.

Job Summary

The General Worker will assist artisans and technical staff in performing routine maintenance duties within office facilities and at meteorological observation sites. The role involves both indoor and outdoor tasks and requires physical stamina, attention to detail, and adherence to safety standards.

Successful candidates will play a vital role in ensuring that weather monitoring equipment and infrastructure remain in good working condition. The position requires a proactive individual who can work independently as well as within a team environment.

Key Performance Areas

The successful candidates will be responsible for a range of operational and maintenance duties, including:

Assisting with the installation and inspection of remote meteorological observation sites to ensure equipment functions correctly and remains secure.

Repairing and maintaining structures that house meteorological instruments, ensuring protection against environmental damage and vandalism.

Performing terrain maintenance at observation sites, including mowing grass, removing weeds, clearing debris, and maintaining a clean and accessible environment around equipment installations.

Cleaning indoor office facilities, including restrooms and communal areas, to maintain hygiene and a professional working environment.

Carrying out basic building maintenance tasks such as minor repairs, painting, and general upkeep of facilities.

Reviewing and complying with Total Quality Management (TQM) processes to ensure all tasks meet organisational standards and performance expectations.

Monitoring, verifying, and reporting on assets and key infrastructure to ensure proper tracking and maintenance of equipment and facilities.

Supporting fleet management activities, which may include vehicle checks and ensuring compliance with internal transport policies.

Controlling stock levels of materials and tools required for maintenance activities to avoid shortages and ensure operational continuity.

Ensuring compliance with Occupational Health and Safety legislation at all times, including safe handling of tools, equipment, and hazardous materials.
