The Senior Buyer will be responsible for driving category performance and ensuring that product availability, pricing and profitability targets are achieved.
Core Performance Areas Include:
Negotiating with supplier sales representatives to secure competitive pricing and deals
Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records of all supplier transactions
Negotiating prices and promotional deals to meet budgeted gross profit targets
Managing stock levels and service levels in line with sales forecasts and budgets
Overseeing product availability and service levels across assigned categories
Managing and optimising product ranges within defined product categories
Achieving targeted Distribution Centre (DC) sales and gross profit objectives
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications and experience requirements listed below to be considered for this role.
Qualifications & Experience
Matric (Grade 12)
Marketing Degree or Diploma or Purchasing Diploma
Minimum of 5 years’ retail experience in a senior managerial position
Skills & Competencies
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong understanding of buying systems and retail processes
In-depth knowledge of product range requirements within a supermarket environment
Proven negotiation and supplier management skills
Strong drive, initiative and creative problem-solving ability
Hands-on approach to operational challenges
Sound administrative and organisational skills
Good financial and commercial acumen
Computer literacy
Knowledge of the SAP system will be an added advantage
