As a learner in this programme, you will work under the direct supervision of a registered pharmacist. Your responsibilities and learning areas will include:
Assisting with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and substances in accordance with pharmacy regulations
Supporting the preparation, compounding, and manipulation of non-sterile medicines according to approved procedures
Unpacking, merchandising, and organising dispensary stock and shelves
Learning how to interpret prescriptions and understanding legal and ethical pharmacy requirements
Picking, packing, labelling, and checking medications accurately before dispensing
Managing stock control, including monitoring expiry dates and maintaining organised shelving
Following up with patients regarding prescription tracking and collection appointments
Assisting with call centre scripts, customer service queries, and medical aid authorisations (including chronic, HIV & AIDS, and oncology)
Providing basic health and product information to customers within legal limits
Reporting stock shortages, discrepancies, and receiving stock in line with company procedures
Through these activities, learners develop practical dispensing skills, improve customer service abilities, and gain a strong understanding of pharmacy operations and compliance standards.
