Scania (S A) (Pty) Ltd is looking for a qualified and experienced Workshop Manager to join its team in Durban.
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the daily workshop operations, leading and motivating workshop employees, maintaining strong customer relationships and ensuring that the workshop delivers excellent service and achieves its operational and financial targets.
Job Description
The main purpose of the Workshop Manager is to proactively develop and manage the workshop business and operations. The successful candidate will be expected to improve customer and employee satisfaction while contributing to the profitable growth of the business.
The Workshop Manager will oversee workshop activities, ensure quality standards are maintained, manage employees and equipment, monitor performance and work closely with customers and other departments.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Management
Manage and plan the daily operations of the workshop.
Monitor daily workshop activities and take appropriate action when deviations occur.
Lead, motivate and manage workshop and service staff.
Set up routines for planning and follow-up meetings.
Conduct regular meetings with workshop and service teams.
Ensure an efficient flow of authorised work through the workshop.
Ensure that workshop work is completed according to required quality standards.
Ensure that all required documentation is completed correctly.
Develop, implement and monitor workshop standards and procedures.
Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and tidiness within the workshop.
Monitor the condition of workshop tools and equipment.
Arrange the purchase, repair and calibration of tools and equipment when required.
Identify and manage deviations and initiate appropriate corrective action.
Promote consistent quality standards across the business.
Coordinate spare parts activities and ensure that parts are available when required.
Ensure that service exchange and warranty parts procedures are followed.
Manage workshop facilities.
Create and manage working-time schedules for workshop shifts.
Customer Relations
Build and maintain strong professional relationships with customers.
Ensure that customer needs are identified and properly addressed.
Maintain effective relationships with customer representatives.
Monitor customer complaints and ensure that they are handled appropriately.
Handle major or complicated customer complaints when required.
Assist workshop employees and customers with technical issues.
Participate in meetings with key customers when required.
Ensure that customers receive excellent service from the workshop.

Ensure that the necessary conditions are in place to achieve workshop objectives.
Take appropriate action to improve workshop performance and business results.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements to be considered for the Workshop Manager position:
Must be a qualified Diesel Technician.
Must have a recognised Trade Certificate.
Must have at least 5 years of technical workshop experience.
Previous experience supervising or leading a team in a workshop environment is advantageous.
Workshop experience within the automotive industry is advantageous.
A valid Heavy Vehicle licence is advantageous.
Knowledge of SHE requirements.
Ability to comply with SRS and DOS requirements.
Computer literate and able to use MS Office.
Knowledge or experience with Scania systems is required.
Must be medically fit to perform the duties of the position.
