Job Description

The Gauteng Department of Health is inviting eligible South African applicants to apply for the Gauteng College of Nursing (GCON) Intake 2027. This nursing training programme provides an opportunity for qualifying candidates to study towards a Diploma in Nursing while receiving practical clinical training at accredited public healthcare facilities across Gauteng Province.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Must currently reside in Gauteng Province.
  • Must have one of the following qualifications:
    • Senior Certificate
    • National Senior Certificate (NSC)
    • National Certificate Vocational (NCV) Primary Health
    • Currently in Grade 12
  • Must meet the required academic admission requirements.
  • Must have access to all required supporting documents for online application.

  • English HG D or SG C
  • Biology HG D or SG C
  • Mathematics HG D or SG C
  • Minimum M-Score of 17

NC(V) Applicants

  • Minimum 50% in Fundamental Subjects
  • Minimum 60% in Vocational Subjects including:

Current Grade 12 Learners

  • Grade 11 final results must meet the required NSC admission criteria.

Responsibilities During the Programme

  • Attend all scheduled lectures and classroom sessions.
  • Complete all theoretical learning modules successfully.
  • Participate in practical clinical training.
  • Complete Work Integrated Learning (WIL).
  • Work under the supervision of qualified nursing professionals.
  • Provide quality patient care while undergoing training.
  • Maintain professional behaviour and ethical conduct.
  • Follow all Gauteng Department of Health policies and procedures.
  • Participate in weekend, night shift and public holiday clinical rotations where required.
  • Complete all assessments, examinations and practical evaluations.
